David Closs, 1822–1876 (aged 53 years)

Name
David /Closs/
Note: Some confusion over David's parents.

Some confusion over David's parents.

There is a census reference to his daughter Ellen being the "Niece" of Robert A Closs. This would imply that David and Robert A Closs are brothers. In fact the 1861 Census for David clearly shows Griffith Closs as being a brother which would put them both onto a different branch of the tree from Robert A Closs.

On balance we're more inclined to believe that David and Griffith recognised themselves as brothers than Robert recognising Ellen as a second cousin once removed - "niece" would be so much easier! Happy to be proved wrong if there is more evidence out there.
