Note: Living with Robert A Closs and wife at Llanberis, Caernarvonshire. General servant. Living with Robert A Closs and wife at Llanberis, Caernarvonshire. General servant. The reference to "Niece" on the census is somewhat confusing. This would imply that her father David Closs and Robert A Closs are brothers. In fact the 1861 Census for David Closs clearly shows Griffith Closs as being a brother which would put them both onto a different branch of the tree from Robert A Closs. On balance we're more inclined to believe that David and Griffith recognised themselves as brothers than Robert recognising Ellen as a second cousin once removed - "niece" would be so much easier! Happy to be proved wrong if there is more evidence out there. |
