John Charles Close-Brooks (1876) was born in Eccles, Lancashire, the son of John Brooks Close (1850) and Emily Brooks.
He served in the South African War (Imperial Yeomanry (22nd Cheshire Company)), and afterwards in the 6th Dragoon Guards until 1904.
