Uncle Sam

Wilmot Seward Close (1886) was born in Manhattan, New York, the son of Frank L Close and Eloise Seward.

He joined the 7th New York Infantry in 1917 and saw action overseas. He was slightly wounded in Belgium and mentioned in despatches for his work as the Battalion runner before being honourably discharged in 1919.
