Rex Wilkinson Close (1904) ServiceteRex Wilkinson Close (1904) CWGC

Rex Wilkinson Close (1904) was born at Lyell, Tasmania, the son of James Ayrton Close (1878) and Alice Richmond Rex.

He enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy in 1940 and was aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes in the Indian Ocean when it was attacked by the Japanese air force in 1942, being killed in action.

He is remembered on the Roll of Honour at Hobart, Tasmania and the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, England.
