CICERO HOWARD CLOSE

Waterloo relatives and friends this week learned of the death at Mountain View, Cal., Jan. 23, of Cicero Howard Close, 67, a native of Cedar Township, Blackhawk County, and son of a Cedar Township Pioneer family.

He was the son of Cicero, sr. and and Mary (Meade) Close, who came ro Iowa in a covered wagon about 1855 and settled on section 33, Cedar Township.
Cicero Close Sr. served in the Iowa General Assmbly for three terms from 1871 to 1873. He died about 40 years ago from injuries received when he was trampled to death by a team of horses. Cicero Jr., attended Miller Creek School in Cedar Township and Cornell College at Mount Vernon, Ia. He had four sisters and a brother, John. Two of the sisters, Mrs. Harriet Bisbe, Hollywood, Cal., and Mrs. Elizabeth Sill, Mountain View, Cal., survive. The sisters who preceded him in death were Mrs. Frances Ackley and Mrs. Julia Daniels. He married Miss Della Doxey , daughter of another pioneer Cedar Township family, Jan 5, 1886 at the home of her Father, Thomas B. Doxey, at Washburn, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Edward Barrett Howard, and they went to California to live 37 (sic) years ago. Surviving besides his widow and two sisters, are one son, Richard, San Francisco, and a grandson, Richard Jr. Mrs. Ida ( Doxey ) Geist, 622 Independence Avenue is a sister- in- law, and Mrs. Lincoln White, La Porte Road, a cousin. Cicero Howard Close was City Engineer at Mountain View, and a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge there. Funeral Services were conducted in Mountain View at the W.J. Anway funeral home and burial was in Alta Mesa Cemetery there. The I.O.O.F. was in charge of the services at the Grave.
