At 10:30 o'clock last evening occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Frances Ackley, wife of Conductor W.A. Ackley. The death was very sudden, she having been as usual only the day before. The cause of death was rheumatism which reached the heart and in a few short hours did its fatal work. Mrs. Ackley was born in Black Hawk County in 1850, the daughter of Honorable C.C. and Mary Close. She was married to William A. Ackley in 1872 and has lived in this city almost continually since, forming a large circle of aquaintances who cherished her for her many womanly qualities of heart and mind. She had a sympathetic and a generous nature which gained for her the lasting affection of those with whom she came in contact, and many are the friends who will mourn her departure from a life fraught with good deeds to others. She leaves beside her husband, a mother, and brother C.H. Close, at home in Washburn, Ia., another brother, John A. Close in Illinois, and three sisters, Mrs. W.P. Daniels of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. L.P. Martin living in Wisconsin, and Mrs. E.D. Sill, living in Arkansas. The funeral anouncement will be given hereafter. |
