Walter John Westcott Close (1891) WW2 Service

Walter John Westcott Close was born at Laura, South Australia in 1891, the son of John Thomas Close and Frances Wilkinson.

He enlisted in the Australian Army Medical Corps in 1915 and served in Egypt, France and Belgium, returning to Australia aboard the Field Marshall in May 1918. His rank at this point was Major. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

He also enlisted in the Australian Army in 1942 and was discharged just over a year later in 1943. It looks as though he may have been wounded.

There is an extensive set of his WW1 service records available in the Close Ancestry trees.
