What started off as a random scouting trip into darkest Lincolnshire when something caught my eye has turned into another significant Close branch. It may a bit fragmented, but having pushed back … and back … and back … has ended up in the 1500’s at Grantham. Coming back down, we not only have Lincolnshire but also large swathes of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.
Northamptonshire turned out to be interesting because of one Francis (Frank) Edwin Close who is now featuring in our Hall of Fame for his contribution to Physics.
The tree tops are:
- William Close (<1577)
- Thomas Close (<1700)
- Richard Close (<1709)
It’s possible that Thomas and Richard may be brothers, but I can’t find anything conclusive. I have a feeling that Lincolnshire may hold a whole lot more … but that’s for another time.
