We have a Mary Close present who appears to be the wife of James ... but there is no sign of a marriage record, and they are both recorded as being Unmarried. Think what's happening here is that James and Mary Sturdy have had an illegitimate child, George, but were not married. He was living next door to the Sturdy family in 1861, and so would have known her for years. |
