There are a couple of candidates:

  1. John Close (baptised 01/11/1679) illegitimate, mother unknown

  2. John Close (baptised May 1680) son of John Close of Whitaside

However, there were also two John son of John Close of Whitaside who died in 1680 and 1682, so option 2 looks less likely. Had it been option 1, the entry would have been John son of mothers name.

Note: REGISTERS

REGISTERS

The set of unattached trees originating in Grinton, Yorkshire.

We have high hopes that one day it will find its rightful place in our main tree.

This is an attempt to document the entire Grinton lineage, as far as the registers will allow.

The Grinton Parish registers are riddled with gaps, some as large as 12 years, and only started in 1640.

There were also a ridiculous number of James Closes around in the 1600's, all having children at the same time. The chances of getting them all dead right is virtually zero.

The trees here represent the start of the dangling lines and, as the saying goes, all the bits are here - just not necessarily in the right order.

BURIALS

There are a host of burials documented in the Grinton Parish registers. Unfortunately, unless it's blindingly obvious due to a unique name, without an age at the time of death it's virtually impossible to tell which person it is.

Note

About

So, here we are in the Close Ancestry Trees. In places it's no more than a thicket of brambles, which is unfortunate, but probably not unexpected.

What you see here has taken thousands of hours of painstaking research to put together. So, if you've found the site of use to your research, please send us a donation.

BURIALS

There are a host of burials documented in the Grinton Parish registers. Unfortunately, unless it's blindingly obvious due to a unique name, without an age at the time of death it's virtually impossible to tell which person it is.
