Today is Ancestor Appreciation Day

It is celebrated on the 27th September every year.

Do you know who the people were you descended from? Where did they live? Did they immigrate to the country you live in during the past few generations, or have they lived on the same continent for centuries? How did their life choices help to get you to where you are today? Ancestor Appreciation Day is a day to learn about and appreciate your ancestors. It is a day to look into your family history, to learn about generations you have never learned about before. It is a day to research and do interviews. The day should be spent looking into your family history and researching your genealogy.

… or you could spend a couple of hours digging through the Close Ancestry site instead. It’s been slowly growing since 2007 when we started with 50 people and a couple of census records, and now we have … well, see for yourself! Like most of us, it’s certainly put some weight on over the years.

And don’t forget the Guild of One-Name Studies for the Close surname run by Margaret Southgate, who has been steadily accumulating stuff over the years as well.

The point is … remember where you came from … and pass this on to the future generations … oh, yeah … and you could also send us a small donation for all our efforts.

Thanks for looking.

And now for a bit of housekeeping

See the wood and the trees

We publish everything we have in our fabulous trees, so basically if you can’t find it, we don’t have it. With over 20,000 people, 5,000 families, 12,000 sources, and 69,000 image references currently sat in our database, you’ll appreciate the amount of work that has gone into this over the years.

You can see more in the Close Ancestry Trees.

We know that everyone in the world is after your hard-earned cash, but if you do feel a donation coming on as a result of your visit here, then please feel free to send it our way. It all goes towards the upkeep of the site, for which we charge absolutely nothing. So, please help us to keep the site free to use. Thanks.
