January 2011 The history of Ribba Hall, John Close (1853) and family. Photographs of Ribba Hall in January 2011. A series of photographs of carvings on barn doors done by the children of John Close, plus others which appear to be other occupants of Ribba over the years. Many thanks to Emma for these. The carvings appear as: JOHN CLOSE 1899 BISHOPDALE (spelled with the P reversed) BC, JC and TC grouped together (J could be John but he is on as E Close, could be Joseph but again is on as Joe, so it could be for Septimus James if he was known as James and Thomas Vic. JOE.CLOSE 1902 BISHOPDALE E.CLOSE 1902 C. CLOSE 1902 (could be 1909) G.R.CLOSE ISA and Isa 1906 There is also WD (William Dent who farmed at Ribba from 1860's to 1880's), JH (Joseph hopper who farmed at Ribba in the 1850's) and G.DUCKWORTH 1866 BISHOPDALE (who may have farmed with William Dent but is not on the census). RH FROM 1920, who is R Hestletine and farmed at Ribba in the 1920's. JW which is with the very early names not yet identified, J.DINSDALE which is a common surname there but not identified and TG, SG and IG which are from the Guy family who have now been farming at Ribba for 3 generations. |
