She was educated in the Chicago Public School System and Graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1899. She taught High School in the Calumet School system in West Pullman for four years prior to her death. She was the only child of Elizabeth Mead Close and Emmett Dorr Sill.
