We'll add to this page as and when we
come across other sites that we feel may be useful.
To be honest it's not our main priority
but if you come across something you feel may help
others out please send us the link and we'll add it to
the list.
We can't praise these guys too highly!
Their service reliability is outstanding,
and their support during our
(self-inflicted) site woes has been
brilliant.
Margaret Southgate
(nee Close), one of our contributors, has taken up the
mantle of a "One-Namer" of the Close surname. She would
like anybody who is researching Close ancestors to
provide whatever they can towards her endeavour. Given
that we're a prolific bunch of breeders she's set
herself a mammoth task!
The "Debt of Honour Register" is the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission's
database listing the millions of men and
women of the Commonwealth forces who died
during the two world wars and the 23,000
cemeteries, memorials and other locations
worldwide where they are commemorated. The
register can also be searched for details of
the 67,000 Commonwealth civilians who died
as a result of enemy action in the Second
World War.
They are the "Immigrant Ships
Transcribers Guild" aka "ISTG". They were
founded by a small group of people in late
September of 1998. Today, they have over 500
volunteers who work diligently to decipher
and transcribe passenger lists which are
then uploaded to their website.
