I have traced my ancestors to James Close and Mary Peacock who were married on 25 April 1778 in Grinton. You have Mary Peacock married to James Close 1754- son of George Close and Jane Turner. Yet Mary Peacock's gravestone shows her married to James Close 1756-1827 and tracing James Close born 1756 you find he is the son of Thomas and Ann Close. I would think that my James Close is more likely to be the son of Thomas and Ann rather than George and Jane. Is there a reason why you have selected as you have?

Hi Andy,
There was undoubtedly a good reason at the time, although it's quite possible I lost the plot at some stage.
I'll revisit this one in the light of the Grinton registers. _________________ Andy |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the James CLOSEs born around 1760-ish confusing. One of them is mine! If James son of George is now 'available' he could well be my 3g-grandfather who moved to Lancashire shortly after his marriage to Ann Harker in 1790. First son was christened George in January 1791 - was he named after his grandfather, I wonder?
