Uncle Sam

Wilmot Seward Close (1886) was born in Manhattan, New York, America in 1886, the son of Frank L Close and Eloise Seward.

He joined the 7th New York Infantry in 1917 and saw action overseas. He was slightly wounded in Belgium and mentioned in despatches for his work as the Battalion runner before being honourably discharged in 1919.

Drafted again in 1942 at New Rochelle, New York.
